RAD™ PaintStrip & Solid Wood Stain Stripping Gel
R-A-D™ PaintStrip is the right choice for almost any paint or solid stain stripping project. R-A-D™ PaintStrip is eco-friendly, works fast (starts working within 5 minutes), and removes up to 5 layers of most paints in 30-45 minutes, and up to 15 layers in 24 hours. R-A-D™ PaintStrip stays wet for 24+ hours, allowing you to strip larger areas without having to reapply.
Note: Our regular stain stripper, Restore-A-Deck Stain Stripper will remove 80-90% of all exterior and wood and deck stains. It does have its limitations with certain coating types and is the reason we have introduced R-A-D™ PaintStrip.
When Should You Use RAD™ PaintStrip on Wood Decks

Can I apply RAD paint stripper to a wet surface/Deck…. i.e. after a period of rain?
Damp, not soaking wet.
Hello!! Just moved into our house not too long ago and are re-doing the deck. It looks like it was a solid paint used that’s now peeling off and it’s over 90 degrees during the day. Would it be best to apply the paint stripper later in the day and allow it to sit on the entire deck overnight then powerwash it off in the morning? Do I need to spray water on the gel to keep it wet? Is leaving it on over night unnecessary? Sorry for all the questions, this is my first time renovating a deck.
Thank you!
You will need to test first.
Test Patch:
Before general use, test on a small area to determine compatibility, required dwell time, and coverage for desired results. For an estimated 5 or less coats, scrape a section of the area with a stripping tool after one hour of dwell time. If not easily down to wood after one hour, leave on longer and test again hourly. For 10 – 15 coats of paint, cover with plastic and wait 24 hours to test. For best results, cover the stripper with plastic and do not allow to dry.
Hello! I have been trying to research how to redo my deck. I am not sure what product(s) to use and in what order. It is a floating flat 16×20 deck with a solid stain that was placed over a semi-transparent stain. I am in central IL and the weather here is hot; when should I start on this task (time of year)?
The easiest thing to do is strip off what is loose/peeling, brighten the deck, then repaply over the intact solid stain with the RAD Solid Stain:

What shall I use to strip the old stain? So I need to sand it, water pressure, or a product you offer? Sorry new to all this.. Thanks !
When just removing what is peeling and recoating with a solid stain, use this kit while pressure washing.

I do not know what was the original used on these beams on my house. However, it does appear it is a film forming finishing as you can see the gloss on some of the pictures where it isn’t exposed to the sun. I have a few questions
a. Apply RAD PaintStrip with a roller brush and leave for 24 hours
b. Pressure wash after 24 hours to remove film and reapply as required.
c. Apply wood penetrating stain
1. Yes, it should
2. Yes.
3. Yes but you do not always need 24 hours. Test after an hour or two, repeat if needed, until it can be easily scraped off. Then pressure wash.
What is the best way to apply this? What is its consistency?
It is a gel so best to roll it on.
Thank you.
Will this stripper remove the paint on the metal pickets or balusters that some decks have?
Yes, it could so best to cover and or protect them
We used Olympic Maximum Semi-Transparent Cedar Tone Stain + Sealer about 9 years ago. I’m trying to decide if I need to use RAD Stripper or RAD Paint Stripper.
Please upload some pics in the comments of the deck so we can offer proper advice.
I uploaded pictures to the original post. Did you get them?
Here are the photos
Here are the rest
The RAD PainStrip would be the easiest way to remove the filming acrylic stain.
Hello. Will be stripping an ipe deck with the RAD paint stripper product this week starting tomorrow. My question is: can the stripper can be applied to damp surfaces?
There is a likelihood that the stripper may have to be applied in stages, (different days), due to deck size. If I pressure wash off Monday’s application of stripper on Tuesday, can I continue application of the paint stripper on Tuesday even though unstripped adjacent areas are damp due to the pressure washing?
Yes, you can use the stripper on damp wood.
I am using RAD paint stripper on a deck that wraps around three sides of the house. When power washing off will it damage vinyl siding or vinyl railings, or shrubs. I understand direct contact with product might cause some damage, but do I need to be concerned about it when power washing?
Avoid contact with any surfaces that are not being stripped. Cover prior and rinse with water after.
Thanks. Do I need to brighten before staining after using the paint stripper?
neil
No need with the Paint Strip.
